What could I wear with a plaid skirt for my school’s Homecoming Rockstar day?

It’s just a simple pleated plaid skirt, mainly red, with a bit of blue and white. I’m considering wearing my Converse, but I don’t know what kind of top I could wear. I’m also debating on whether or not to wear knee socks?

Here is a picture of it. It kind of looks like a grayish color but it’s really a very dark brown.
