Although it is only Januuary and the winter sales are still in the shops, a few catalogues are beginning to drop on my door mat. The designers have been working on this summer’s new lines for several months and it looks as though on of the trends is for bright and clashing colour combinations.

Depending on your natural colouring, you will get away with bright colours to a different degree of success. This doesn’t mean that this fashion is only available to those with the “right” colouring for it; there are a few little tricks that will make wearing clashing bright colours available for all.

For women with “Deep” or “Clear” colouring, this trend was made for you. “Deeps” who look fantastic in black can add splashes of deep and bright reds, pinks, oranges or greens depending on skin tone. As long as you choose either a cool or a warm undertone that suits your skin tone, any bright colour will be striking. “Clears” can wear contrasting bright clear colours; for example pink with orange. If your undertone is cool wear a fuchsia pink near your face and orange on your legs and the reverse for a warm undertone.

“Light” and “Soft” women will be overpowered by wearing bright colours head to foot. For “Light” women I would suggest sticking to light coloured clothing and enhancing it with bright accessories; shoes and bag for instance. Similarly “Soft” women are restricted with their pallet.

A “Soft” looks her best in muted, tonal colours but again use shoes and bags in Turquoise or Blush Pink to add an element of the “Bright” trend. It is probably better to keep the bright items away from your face, so if just wearing bright coloured shoes is not enough for you, try coloured jeans or a skirt, then team it with a top that is softer and one or two tones lighter in the same colour.

“Warms” can wear bright yellow orange and lime greens, “Cools” can wear fuchsia pink, bright periwinkle and magenta.

Fashion trends come and go every year but this doesn’t mean you have to adhere exactly to what you see in magazines and in shop displays. Just by adding a touch of colour to the collection you already have in your wardrobe, keeps you up-to-date without having to spend a fortune or change your look completely.

Rock the Casbah this Fall with Egyptian-inspired pieces. Add a few of these exotic pieces to spice up your wardrobe and jump into the ethnic trend. Dresses, jewelry, and footwear are all great ways to rock this trend and add a little drama and flair to your closet. Check out my picks for how to identify this trend and what key pieces are needed to wear it best. You will see that you don’t need many pieces to get the point across; usually one piece per outfit will easily identify the trend.

Blouses. If you really want to add drama to an outfit with just one piece, look no further than a silk, printed blouse. My ideal blouse for this trend is one in a deep rich shade of chocolate brown in mosaic printed silk, a drawn-in waist, and pin tucked sleeves. The blouse is a statement in itself and can be worn with any plain bottom in a coordinating color. Mosaic prints (especially small-print, colorful ones) are an easy way to identify an Egyptian-Inspired piece.

Skirts. If you want to wear this trend in reverse, go for an ornately designed, glittery skirt in a simple silhouette. The richly colored thread and unique design of the skirt are two characteristics of the Egyptian-inspired trend. Balance a skirt like this out with a simple tank or blouse.

Dresses. If you want to go for the Egyptian goddess look, try a long, dress in a fluid material (like lightweight jersey knit) with ornate beading or scrollwork on one portion of it. Intricate glass beading is another characteristic of the Egyptian-inspired trend. To really look authentic in this ensemble, rim your eyes with kohl and pull your hair back away from your face.

Shoes. Go for flat, gladiator-like sandals. My favs are a pair of sandals in black with bold gold trim and geometric cutouts in the leather that can be worn day or night. Contrasting coloring and geometric patterns are also two characteristics of the Egyptian-inspired trend.

Jewelry. Jewelry is a great way to accessorize any trend, but for this trend, it can easily be worn alone and make any outfit fit the trend. If you want to keep it simple, gold jewelry with snake emblems or in the shape of a coiled snake (like a bracelet) is a slinky and seductive way to rock the Egyptian-inspired trend. This can be worn with a more intricate outfit without being distracting. However, for those who want bold jewelry, a beaded bib necklace is glass, gold, and wood is the way to go. A simple or even monochromatic outfit would work best with this necklace. For jewelry, snake-inspired gold pieces or bold pieces in exotic materials are defining characteristics of the Egyptian-inspired trend.

From blouses to jewelry, you now know how to identify the Egyptian-inspired trend and can rock it like any fashionista. Try this trend in every piece of clothing and see how easily it pairs with the basics that you already have in your closet. Just remember, since every piece is such a statement piece, you should only wear one piece at a time to rock this trend effectively. As always, good luck and happy shopping!

A new fashion year is here and so are the latest styles for women looking to freshen up their wardrobes. Ladies, good news. Femininity is back!

From the office to casual wear, you can show off the power of your femininity while still taking care of business. Jackets are a great way to add flair and style to your pants and skirts. Boucle jackets are hot. Also, pairing a colorful denim jacket with a flouncy skirt gives you a variety options for a more dressed up casual look.

You should have at least one boucle jacket in your closet. Boucle is very chic and can dress up a pair of black pants or a black skirt very easily. Boucle jackets come in a variety of colors. Some have removable flower pins, some have ruffles, etc. In celebrity circles it’s popular to pair a boucle jacket with jeans and high heels or boots. Very chic.

Skirts are longer, falling either just above the knee or just below the knee. You’ll find skirts with asymmetric cuts, ruffles at the bottom, or with a free flowing feel. Why not add a flowery or ethnic print skirt to your collection. Pair it with a jean jacket in blue, pink or white for extra pizzazz.

Colorful ponchos and shrug wraps (wraps that are fitted and tie in the middle) are great accent pieces to wear over plain black or white tops. Speaking of tops, try a shirt or blouse in a bold funky print to spice things up a bit. Plus size women are no longer bound by arcane rules that say they can’t wear prints. Dress for your personality.

Shopping for new clothes is a fun experience and the options for plus size women are better than ever. You’ll find all the new trends and plus size fashion styles to create your own feminine chic look at great online shops like: Lane Bryant, Catherines, Avenue, Just My Size, Making It Big, Ulla Popken, Size Appeal, Kiyonna and more.
