What to wear in Rome in Summer? (Female)?

I am off to Rome for 5 days first thing tomorrow morning and am, having a bit of trouble with my packing. What to Italian girls/woman ages 16-18 usually wear in August? So far all i have packed are dresses (quite short though. Could this prove to be a problem anywhere?) A pair of denim hotpants and some floral print vests and a skirt or two. I don’t want to stand out greatly against the locals so any help would be much appreciated
Also, could someone just clarify to help me. In the Vatican Church is it just your shoulders that have to be covered or do your legs too?
Thanks for your time and any help

When in Rome……………Do as the Romanians do!
No shorts or low-cut tops in the Vatican.
Wear t-shirts and cool cotton tops and trousers/skirts because the temperature can be 30-40°C.
The fashions in Italy are totally different than here. Everything there is made for quality, not quantity. They believe in looking good for everything, even going shopping. My grandmother would wear a skirt just to go to the market.
First off, for your dresses, make sure they’re not too short. Nothing slutty. Nice skirts are good, not too fancy. Nothing ripped or too low cut either. For shorts, make sure they’re not really short.
I don’t believe your legs need to be covered, but again, wear longer things, not stuff that exposes you.
